Hungry? Let’s help a family that is.
Around 2003 the Erie City Mission began to provide Thanksgiving meal giveaways to local families in need. It’s a great service to help families enjoy a home cooked meal for the holiday. For our Awareness Campaign this month we’ve got something a little different. We’re still asking for your help to like and share in support of the Erie City Mission and what they do to assist families in need. But if you’d like to join in with us this month here’s how.
We’re helping to provide a portion of the fixins’ for Thanksgiving Dinner for a bunch of local families. The list seen here costs under $10. If you’d like to donate the whole list or can contribute one item please stop by our office at 4002 Main Street. We’ve got to hurry because Thanksgiving is early this year and ECM needs time to package everything with turkeys. Monday November 12th is our deadline to bring everything in. So please Like and Share or Stop by to drop off a food item donation to share our blessings with someone this Thanksgiving.
The Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway was started about 15 years ago. It was an outreach program of the Mission’s Family Care Food Pantry. It is a program that is free of charge to anyone in the city. The turkeys and bags are given out on the Monday before Thanksgiving. They normally give away around 1,200 turkeys and fixings. Turkeys are bought with monetary donations for the Outreach program and physical donations of turkeys. The giveaway starts at 8:00 am and runs until all the turkeys are given away (usually around 11:00am or 12:00pm). People line up rather early. The Erie City Mission distributes hot beverages and breakfast sandwiches to those waiting in line. They are also accessible to the handicapped. To receive a turkey and fixings, recipients need to bring some form of photo ID.
So please stop by our LeafGuard, Bauer Specialty and Bauer Specialty Commercial Services offices at 4002 Main St. Erie, PA 16511 Monday – Thursday 8a-4:30p or Friday 8a-4p to drop off items. We’re at the corner of Rankine Ave. and Main St. in Lawrence Park. We’d love to see you and say thanks for helping someone this Thanksgiving season.
